#GetOutside

It's been raining on and off now for a few days and this morning.  I wanted to see the Dells saturated by the rain as the colors deepen and the patterns stand out.  On a subdued morning, under a broody monsoon haze, we spied some kayakers.  The Dells are spellbinding. One could easily meander around these formations for days.

Prescott is a very charming small town located in the mountains of north-central Arizona about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix. It is nestled in a scenic valley at the northern edge of the rugged Bradshaw Mountains and centered in the pine-clad Prescott National Forest. Although the mountains above Prescott reach heights of nearly 8,000 feet, downtown Prescott sits at an elevation of 5,400 feet. The Granite Dells consists of exposed bedrock and large boulders of granite that have eroded into an unusual lumpy, rippled appearance. They remind me of the infamous Alabama Hills (in California’s Eastern Sierras near Lone Pine) where the old Western movies were filmed. The Precambrian Dells granite has been dated at 1.4 billion years old. Picturesque Watson Lake and Willow Lake are small man-made reservoirs surrounding the Dells, adding to the natural beauty of the area.
